You will also learn some basic flower making as we create daffodils from paper and wire. Landscaping materials will be provided and techniques taught to complete the small scene. All skill levels welcome. \nPlease bring fine tweezers\, fine scissors\, and a ball tool for shaping flowers. Students should bring magnifiers and a work light as needed. The finished painting is 1.75” x 2.25” and a simple gold frame is provided. All skill levels are welcome. Experience in color mixing and paintbrush handling are helpful. \nStudents should bring magnifiers and a work light as needed. All tools and materials provided. \nThe Museum’s educational programming is supported by the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut; Connecticut Humanities; the Randolph and John Dirks Fund; the John and Kelly Hartman Foundation; the Sally Bill Children’s Education Fund; the Betty M. SUMMARY:ART FILM AT THE KATE: The Artist's Garden: American Impressionism
DESCRIPTION:Frames in Film: Presented by The Kate & Florence Griswold Museum \n$17 (Members $15); ticket price includes box office fee. Visit katharinehepburntheater.org or call 860.510.0453 \nFlorence Griswold Museum Members call 860.434.5542 x111 for discount code \nEncore Presentation of this sold out hit film! \nTaking its lead from French artists like Renoir and Monet\, the American Impressionist movement followed its own path which over a forty-year period reveals as much about America as a nation as it does about its art as a creative powerhouse. It’s a story closely tied to a love of gardens and a desire to preserve nature in a rapidly urbanizing nation. Traveling to studios\, gardens and iconic locations throughout the United States\, UK\, and France\, this mesmerizing film is a feast for the eyes. \nIn 1886\, the French art dealer Paul Durand-Ruel brought a selection of his huge stock of impressionist paintings to New York\, changing the course of art in America forever. American artists flocked to the French village of Giverny\, home to the master impressionist Claude Monet\, and cheered the French new wave: painting outdoors with a newfound brilliance and vitality. As Europe recoiled against the work of Monet\, Degas and Renoir\, Americans embraced it and created their own style of impressionism. As America made its epic move from a nation of farmers to a land of factories\, the pioneering American Impressionists crafted a sumptuous visual language that told the story of an era. \nThe Artist’s Garden: American Impressionism features the sell-out exhibition The Artist’s Garden: American Impressionism and the Garden Movement\, 1887–1920 that began at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and ended at the Florence Griswold Museum\, Old Lyme\, Connecticut. \nRuntime: 90 minutes
