This study day allows time for you to make the most of your visit to this remarkable Museum. Upon arrival our group will tour the groundbreaking exhibition Edmonia Lewis: Said in Stone\, featuring the work of the first sculptor of Black and Indigenous (Mississauga) descent to achieve international recognition. Born in 1844\, Lewis became the Beginning her career in Boston in 1863\, she traveled to Rome in 1866 to join the leading American sculptors of her generation\, breaking international\, racial\, and gender barriers. Her vivid\, naturalistic stone sculptures feature abolitionists and social reformers\, engage with Indigenous identity\, and give new life to religious and mythological figures. \nThere will be time after the tour for a boxed lunch and self-guiding the collections and other exhibitions.
