After suffering minor damage while on display outdoors and later in storage\, the form has been masterfully repaired and repainted by the team of automotive restoration specialists. Come learn the challenges involved in restoring a sculpture created using non-traditional materials such as wire mesh\, fiberglass\, resin\, and high-gloss paint. \nRevelations: A Decade of Collecting\, 2016–2026 is currently on view at the Florence Griswold Museum. \nImage: Olafs Zeidenbergs (1936–2006) Geode\, ca. 1968–1969. Thank you for your interest! \nStudy Day at The Peabody Essex Museum and Tour of Edmonia Lewis: Said in Stone \n$160 (Members 10% discount); price includes round-trip transportation\, gratuities\, PEM admission\, boxed lunch\, and guided tour \nJoin us for a day of artistic discovery at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem\, MA. This study day allows time for you to make the most of your visit to this remarkable Museum. Upon arrival our group will tour the groundbreaking exhibition Edmonia Lewis: Said in Stone\, featuring the work of the first sculptor of Black and Indigenous (Mississauga) descent to achieve international recognition. Born in 1844\, Lewis became the Beginning her career in Boston in 1863\, she traveled to Rome in 1866 to join the leading American sculptors of her generation\, breaking international\, racial\, and gender barriers. Her vivid\, naturalistic stone sculptures feature abolitionists and social reformers\, engage with Indigenous identity\, and give new life to religious and mythological figures. \nThere will be time after the tour for a boxed lunch and self-guiding the collections and other exhibitions. From Impressionists and figurative artists like Mary Bradish Titcomb and Harriet Whitney Frishmuth to expressionists Gretna Campbell to abstract artists like Anni Albers\, Anna Audette\, and Ellen Carey\, the place of women in art has evolved over decades. This work explores the visual principles used in camouflage\, such as coloration\, color theory\, and patterning. By using marbleized papers\, feather\, ribbons\, rocks\, and 19th century prints\, McCabe created an art series in the 1980s that explored these methods. Her talk will take you through the process of making the work\, The Lady in Green Theater\, and other works in this series. \nMcCabe will also share an assortment of materials used to make this series\, such as the exquisite papers made by Michel Duval\, renowned French master craftsman\, and patterned ribbons and rocks. \nRevelations: A Decade of Collecting\, 2016–2026 is currently on view at the Florence Griswold Museum. \nImage: Maureen McCabe (b. 1947)\, Lady in the Green Theater\, 1984.
